"Cockpit Arts, the London-based incubator for designer-makers, has launched a new award to help an established maker grow their business while developing creatively. The winner will be awarded a studio space in one of Cockpit's buildings at Holborn or Deptford, professional development, and a range of promotional opportunities. The Award is open to those in business for at least three years, with a proven track record. The judges - including designer Bill Amberg - are after an ambitious individual demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit. The award plugs a hole in the sector, says Cockpit executive Vanessa Swann: 'There are many opportunities currently for emerging designer-makers but little help for those trying to accelerate their business."

Launch of recycled notebooks

Ethical fashion Brand Tamasyn Gambell launches a range of recycled notebooks, putting a clever twist on this conventional item. The Hardbacks  Taking discarded vintage scarves from a textile unit in Nottingham Tamasyn overprints them in her signature graphic prints and bold colours using water based pigments. Both old and new are united to form a beautiful patterned base, which is used to cover the hardback notebooks. Each notebook is hand bound by a small bookbinder in Essex and is totally unique. Its pages are made from recycled British paper waste at a 100 year old British mill. The Paperbacks  The paperback versions are based on old school notebooks.
